Special Feature: Shinto Ohtake ” Cut + Paste”
Design by Edit 35, Shinro OhtakeIdea issue 319 special feature “Cut + Paste” focuses on Ohtake’s collage works in particular with full use of special paper, printing, insertion and even two miniature books bound. As he mentioned in the interview for this issue, Ohtake’s works essentially deviate from the word “collage'” of the western Art terminology. This issue of Idea presents what his “Cutting + Pasting” is all about with pure joy of graphics. The collectable issue.”Shinro Ohtake Zen-kei: Retrospective 1955-2006″ is coming up at Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, on 14 Oct. 2006. For more detail, please visit the official site, [ http://shinroohtake.jp ].Shinro Ohtake Born in 1955, Tokyo. Since bursting onto the scene as the standard-bearer for “new painting” in Japan in the early 1980s, Shinro Ohtake has painted ceaselessly, taking as subject matter all and everything appearing to him in the world before his eyes, and producing a body of works nearly unequaled in quality and volume. An artist remarkable in the breadth of his activities, he has simultaneously with painting worked in almost every other medium as the impulse strikes him – three-dimensional art, photography, books, printed matter, and sound. His influence as an artist, we can fairly say, extends to a spectrum of genres beyond the world of art, including photography, design, literature, and music, and touches people of all generations.
